You Dress Up Like Lady Parts, I Will Keep My Self-Respect

“You’re sexist!”

“You’re ignorant!”

“You’re brainwashed by men!”

These are just a few of the taunts I have had thrown at me for my beliefs over third wave feminism. A bunch of trash-leaving, baby-hating she-beasts dressed up like a vagina? No thank you. I’ll keep to my self-respect.

While many women in eastern countries, like Iran, women are oppressed and beaten. However, many women got up the day after the election from their warm beds, put on warm clothes, ate a healthy breakfast, got into their cars, and marched down city streets all over the US calling for justice against their oppression. That’s right ladies and gentlemen, apparently American women are so oppressed they feel the need to block traffic, litter, and make fools out of themselves to get attention. Meanwhile a nine-year old is married away to a man old enough to be her father. See the problem here?

According to the Women’s March website, they claim “The rhetoric of the past election cycle has insulted, demonized, and threatened many of us – immigrants of all statuses, Muslims and those of diverse religious faiths, people who identify as LGBTQIA, Native people, Black and Brown people, people with disabilities, survivors of sexual assault – and our communities are hurting and scared”. What rights has President Trump taken away? You still have all your rights in tact, you just want an excuse to play victim.

WTOP, Washington’s Top News, reported that excess amounts of litter were left at the rally sites.

“We’ve had our maintenance team out there since last night when they already did a pass,” National Park Service spokeswoman Emily Linroth said Saturday.  “Today, they are really going through with a fine tooth comb and picking up what’s left. They do this every July Fourth, so they are pros at it.”

Not only did they leave a huge mess that others were expected to clean up, they left self-respecting women shaking their heads in disbelief. While some brandished signs that read “restore respect and dignity”, others stood next to them wearing homemade vagina costumes. The picture it painted was one of irony.

As I made the conscious choice to take care of my family instead of prancing around like a spoiled child, I looked on as others made a mockery of themselves. Now, while I do support women’s rights, I don’t believe the struggle is on American soil. Women have every right single right that men have, and even have the right to kill their unborn baby. To mope and cry about supposed “lost rights” is counterproductive, not only to our economy, but also to their cause. If they really wanted to make a difference, why not help women in countries where they have no rights at all? No, that would be too hard, and they couldn’t paint themselves as victims.

Let’s face it ladies, you aren’t doing us or yourselves any favors. And from now on, let’s have a little self-respect and leave the vagina costumes in the closet.
